Malcolm Moss MP to retire

I am disappointed to learn that Malcolm Moss has decided to stand down as my Member of Parliament.

Malcolm has been a great servant to North East Cambridgeshire during his 20 years as MP. During the times I have campaigned with him I have always been massively impressed with how much he is respected and valued. Time and again I saw people thank him for work he has done on their behalf and I know that he was held in similar respect in his capacity as a Front Bench spokesman for the party. I remember visiting a St George's day celebration with him in Whittlesey Market Square when a number of the Molly Dancers approached him to say thanks for the work he did on the Licencing Bill, I also recall the amount of lobbying that was done on his behalf by sectors of the leisure industry when he was replaced on the Conservative Front Bench.

I wish Malcolm and Sonya every happiness in the future.

When I was a lad and living at Ramsey where my late father was the GP, I lived in Huntingdonshire and next door was the Isle Of Eley.

Huntingdonshire is long gone save as as a name for various manifestations as a constituency or a council. Why did they have to get rid of Isle of Eley as a name when it is so redolent of where it is and what it was, an island in the Fen?

Of course, "they" hate our history so much that they must always take it from us.
