New Mills Millennium Walkway

One of the other bonuses of our trip away was stumbling upon the Torrs Millennium Walkway in New Mills. We found this at the end of a looooong walk over some pretty steep hills. Normally, the last mile or so of a walk like that is sort of a grateful trudge to the railway Station, so discovering this was a revelation. It is a 6 metre high construction that runs along the River Goyt.

It is a very, very sad irony that Stan Brewster, the engineer behind this project, was killed in the London bombings in 2005. The creator of something this spectacular murdered by people who would destroy everything that is good about Britain.
