Is Blunkett bidding for a place in the Brown Cabinet

I am not sure I believe half of the stuff coming out of David Blunkett's diaries at the moment. I wonder whether today's revelations that Gordon Brown made a last minute decision to support Tony Blair are about a cleverly crafted way of spinning a story that Gordon Brown didn't really support the war. That it comes via David Blunkett could also be a suggestion that he is trying to work his way back in to a Brown Cabinet.

If this is a an organised ploy to boost Brown's standing I am not sure it works. If the Chancellor Brown backed Blair at the last minute to save his own job, then it means he was willing to send troops to their death in order to preserve his career.
