Cameron - Substance Over Spin

Unfortunately, I was forced to watching our David's speech on TV yesterday, other commitments meant I was unable to attend Conference. It backed up my extremely positive opinions of the Conservative Party's rejuvenation under Cameron. It would have been easy for him to resort to Spin and the normal Yah!Boo! politics, but in true Dave fashion he produced a solid performance that stepped a little out of the mould of typical Leader's speeches, reinforcing his previous commitment to change politics. This was perhaps most obvious from his statement of support for Boris Johnson.

It would also have been easy for Dave to begin an era of Spin by responding to the media's ignorant plea for specific policy. Instead he stuck to reinforcing his personal core principles. Policies will come, but now is not the time and the fact that he stuck to his gins and stuck to his own personal ethos shows that he would rather spend time getting things right than launch into detail without his policy groups reporting and without the proper analysis that needs to follow their outcomes.

It wasn't a great speech, it was never intended to be, but it was a good solid performance totally free of Spin.

The whole speech was 'spin' as was the conference (and your blog). 'Spin' being the magician's trick of distracting people from reality.

I liked the speech, we all know it was an act, but reality is the act.
