Ruth Kelly - Maybe It Was the Family
Tonight's news that Ruth Kelly is to stand down as an MP turns all the speculation about the reasons for her decision on its head, including my post a few days ago which looks totally wrong.
It looks more likely that this was a genuine decision to put family first. For this, I take my hat off to her.

I still find it odd. For someone who has already had several children and knows the score, accepting a ministerial position post-2005 election indicated a known ability to handle the next term.
Standing down from that position, and now declaring her intention not to re-stand as an MP (though, interestingly, not resigning now), looks inconsistent to me.
Then again, as a non-parent, what do I really know about it?
