President Obama saviour of the modern world

I was never convinced by Obama during the US Presidential elections. I saw little of substance from him or McCain, just a level of empty rhetoric that would never be allowed in an election in Britain. McCain was no better, and his lack of judgement in selecting Palin as a running mate probably made Obama the better choice.

I do hope he proves to be the superman everyone thinks he is, it is arguable that he has the most challenging task of any peace time President, but my fear is that he will turn out to be America's Tony Blair. His request to suspend trials of prisoners from Guantanamo Bay on his first day in office is a good sign.

One thing I did learn from yesterday's inauguration was that us British are far better at pomp and ceremony than the Americans.
