Hain Strategy

Peter Hain is definitely a man in trouble. I just wonder what he is thinking.

My own view is that his decision must revolve around what the the Electoral Commission and the Parliamentary Standards Commissioner are likely to say. If Hain believes the outcomes will be very critical but that there was nothing deliberate, he may be better off resigning now in the hope that the "nothing deliberate" clause will leave the door open for him to come back.

If there is any suggestion that there is anything deliberate, Hain may as well just hang around and hope that Gordon Brown's difficult situation means that he will cling on to him despite the evidence.
