Move Over Darling

Alastair Darling's Department are responsible for a major debacle. Losing 7.5 million records seriously undermines the public's confidence in a political system which many already see as failing. The Conservatives have, quite rightly, said this must mean the end of ID Cards.

I am intrigued as to why the Government is sending data by courier when their IT systems are surely capable of transmitting this securely?

The question must be asked what other government departments are sending data in this way.

We should also be asking on what basis the Chancellor is saying there "was no evidence the data had fallen into criminal hands ". It is an empty assurance because it seems they have no idea what has happened to this information.
