Reid should point the finger at himself

It seems that the Home Secretary is trying to blame his rapidly ditched policy announcement on Civil Servants, probably hoping he can still rely on the fact that his Department was in total chaos when he took over to get himself out of hot water.

Apparently, John Reid presented the policy plan (which was to blame me and you for not being tough enough on Anti-Social yobs), to a Cabinet committee, who supported it. However, the negative public response showed that he had got it wrong and it now seems to have been dropped.

John Reid can only rely on his poor inheritance for so long - but certainly not on this issue. If he wasn't sure about the policy, he shouldn't have rushed into its launch. He is boss over the Civil Servants in his department and he saw fit to move it forwards; it was Dr Reid's fault.

I would like to suggest that the solution the public would support is; less bureaucracy, less paperwork, police out of offices and on to the streets. We hear of record numbers of police officers (although there is probably some spin in those figures). I would like to know where these officers are.
