Dr Reid's Prescription for the Home Office

The Home Secretary is set to outline his rescue plan for the Home Office today. According to Sky News it will revolve around a new set of targets. So instead of trying somethng different he looks set to rescue the Home Office by using the same methods that failed the first time and is failing in other Government Departments.

In the past targets have; distorted local police priorities; clouded the true picture on immigration; created an obsessive culture in the NHS which means that anyone with an illness that does not have targets gets left behind; has led to schools having an obsession with acedemic outputs instead of skilling people in readiness for adult life; in local Government they have significantly reduced the possibility of local solutions for problems and, as a result, has stifled innovation.

The Home Office is in safe hands.
