Update: Online Petition - Tell them Cherie was out of order

There have been many posts over the last few days about the inappropriate signing of the Hutton Report in order that it can be auctioned to raise funds for the Labour Party.

IMHO this tops the long list of disgusting things the Government have done since 1997 (well highlighted in the Little Red Book of New Labour Sleaze). The comments and response on the Blogs also shows that many, many people feel the same as me, despite this the media refuse to make it anything other than a minor story.

So, in order to try and bring all of the criticism and hatred of this act into one place I have today launched an on-line petition at:

http://www.PetitionOnline.com/hutton/

The wording of the petition is:

"We believe that raising funds for the Labour Party by auctioning copies of the Hutton Report signed by Mrs Cherie Booth QC is an act of appalling bad taste and is disrespectful to the family of the late Dr David Kelly. We further demand that:
  • Mrs Cherie Booth QC publicly apologises for her conduct on this matter
  • The Prime Minister apologises for the misconduct of the Labour Party in this matter.
  • That the Labour Party donates any funds raised from the auction of this item to an appropriate charity, matched by a similar donation from Mrs Cherie Booth QC

Sincerely,

The Undersigned"

I have tried to make the wording as non-political as possible, because I know that there are many Labour Party supporters who feel strongly about this.

The more signatures, the more the outrage of the online Community will be noticed.

UPDATE: A question has just been asked about this matter in PMQs. The Prime Ministers response was that no offence was intended. Simply not good enough, I cannot imagine that those responsible for this did not consider that offence would be caused, rather that they would not get caught.

Update 2: Over 150 signatures in a few hours, and this despite the petitiononlineserver being unavailable for a few hours. 2 Labour MPs have now apologised for the whole sorry saga, but that is not enough. It is the individuals who added value to the report by signing it who are the major sinners - and they shoud apologise as well as the two organisers.
