Update: Justice Demands a Level Playing Field

Just announced that JP is giving up his grace and favour home. This is a typical piece of spin. A last ditch attempt to save his job through a sop to the Socialists in the Labour Party who have fallen out with him. I hope they don't fall for it.

I was disappointed with Glenda Jackson MP on Sky this morning. She may be a socialist, but normally she is true to her own values and has consistently spoken out about the worst aspects of New Labour.

But today she tried to justify John Prescott's job because of how hard he works and how good he is.

Whilst I would contend that the effectiveness of the DPM is open to debate, the argument (probably deliberately) misses the point. John Prescott abused his office and committed acts that would have seen any normal person lose their job. Why should it be any different for John Prescott?

For politics to have credibility, there must be a level playing field. Quite clearly Tony Blair doesn't agree, either that or he doesn't have the moral strength to do what is right.
