LGA makes case for delegation of power

This article from Epolitix makes for good reading. Sir Sandy Bruce Lockhart is making the case for the Government to delegate more power to Local Authorities instead of imposing solutions.

He has a point, the efficiency agenda which emanated out of the Gershon report has been totally embraced by local Government, whilst Whitehall either ignored it or simply failed to deliver. This suggests that the place where efficient services can be delivered from is local Government not National.

Sir Sandy also makes the case that the myriad of centrally driven initiatives have left the electorate more disillusioned that ever; disillusioned with local Government for not having power and with Whitehall for imposing unpopular solutions.
