How Not to Deal with Obesity - Part One

The idea of forcing schools to weigh children to test for obesity is nothing short of foul and smacks of the nanny state gone mad.

Andrew Lansley, Shadow Health Secretary, has said that this comes about because the Government are unwilling to hit parents hard directly because of their own plummeting popularity. It is a disgraceful decision and I hope schools simply refuse.

There are huge issues about obesity (and I speak as someone that has a few weight issues), but schools have a difficult enough job managing; bullying and coping with difficult and distressed parents as well as coping with the reams of DfES bureaucracy. Forcing this on them is a step too far.
