Country in shock as Blair does the right thing
Tony Blair has today pledged to sign a petition backing animal testing. It is good to see him taking the high ground on a moral issue for the first time in ages. I hope this isn't just about taking a populist stance because of his tattered reputation, but I suspect it is.
He has also instructed his new Home Secretary to revisit the Human Rights legislation. About time too - but maybe he should have thought twice before he introduced it in the first place. Maybe timetabling the right sort of debate in Parliament would have led to better legislation? If that is the case (which it most certainly is) Blair could do with learning the lesson for future bills. But he won't.
