NHS Spin continues

Tony Blair has again spoken about the need to press ahead with NHS reforms, on the same day that the BBC is reporting how the Government miscalculated the true cost of contract negotiations over GP reforms, to such an extent that they are overspent by £300m on GP salaries.

On Sky earlier on today it was also suggested that the Government is looking to do away with PPI Forums. The biggest concern over Primary Care Trust reforms is that decision-making is being taken further away from the people who pay for the service, so to even suggest removing the one apparatus that retains local accountability is further evidence that Blair’s reforms remain based on centralised control freakery at the expense of local thinking. It is no surprise that this is the total opposite of what he is spinning.

If anyone wants to read about the reality of Blair’s NHS, I heartily recommend the Crippen Diaries – part of NHS Blog Doctor.
