Spinning for Britain

Gordon Brown’s speech about Britishness on Saturday contained much that was impossible to disagree with.  It is a shame that such a lot of it was a distorted version of what the English have been saying for some time – largely borne out of a concern about the disproportionate influence and funding for Scotland.

One example is his belief that the British should have the right to celebrate its own day.  The English have been saying that we should celebrate St George’s day for years.  Unfortunately the Brown alternative is to bastardise Remembrance Day.  It is vital that Remembrance Day remains as it is – a remembrance of sacrifice.  Changing that day to celebrate Britishness would be to sell out the memories of those who died fighting for Britain – from all Nationalities.

Why not just give the English the right to celebrate St George’s day and tell Ken Livingstone to have a parade on April 23rd instead of on St Patrick’s Day.

Can we now look forward to a Campaign in the EU on British Votes for British Laws?

Maybe he should ask for a review of the funding formula for the European Parliament? I forgot, they already bodged that one.

Brown has a transparent agenda here.
Diminish "Englishness" and get rid of Remembrance day at one and the same time.

Fortunately, nobody was fooled.
