Brown vs. Cameron – Spin or No Spin

Gordon Brown has exposed his own confused policies and his inadequacies as a potential Prime Minister at a perfect time for the Conservative Party.

Even before yesterday, there was growing disquiet about the growth in public expenditure and the inadequate delivery that has followed a massive increase in taxation.

Yesterday, in what can only have been a deliberate attempt to further undermine his credibility Gordon Brown blamed high oil prices for slower than predicted growth in the economy and then announced a tax increase on North Sea Oil production that will further increase the cost of oil.

Today on Radio 4 he has confirmed what we have all suspected some time – that he will follow a Blairite agenda if he becomes Prime Minister.  This is not a statement about policy – we all know that Brown is more left of centre; his totally controlling attitude is proof of that.  I suspect it was more of a statement about continuing the age of spin.

Today we have seen David Cameron confirm a seed change in Conservative politics, a change which will see the Conservatives end the age of yah-boo politics, a change that will take a reasoned approach – opposing Government where it is needed and supporting when it is deserved.

Of course David Cameron has yet to put his words into practice – but over the last 2 days I believe we have seen the Conservatives take a huge leap towards the sort of politics that people want and, at the same time, a reiteration from Brown’s Labour Party that they will continue with the sort of conduct that we are sick of.
